I hit the right areas: Sreesanth

Principal Correspondent

Bangalore: S. Sreesanth attributed his early wickets to “hitting the right areas” while bowling against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the DLF-Indian Premier League match on Monday.

Sreesanth’s two wickets in the very first over of the match helped Kings XI Punjab strike a dominant note in a match it won by six wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“I just focussed on the job on hand and hit the right areas. It is always a pleasure to play in Bangalore, at this stadium where I have played as a kid and perhaps all that hard work paid off today,” Sreesanth told the media late on Monday night.

The speedster also played the diplomatic card when probed on the Harbhajan Singh episode. “I am just focussed on the present. I am not looking at the past. I just want to do my job — bowl well for my team,” Sreesanth said.

The team’s coach Tom Moody said the early wickets helped his team gain a “safety cushion.”

“When a team loses two wickets in the very first over in a Twenty20 game, it is tough to recover. Dravid played a very good knock but he didn’t get any support.

Coping well

“I am happy with the way my team has coped with the travel and challenges of a Twenty20 game but I think we made too many mistakes in the fielding department which might have cost us the match. We need to work on that,” Moody said and added that Kumar Sangakkara, who missed the match due to a side-strain, is a doubtful starter for the game against Chennai Super Kings.

Royal Challengers skipper Dravid said his team had to play consistently and win, to stay afloat. “We cannot afford to make any more mistakes. We will take it one game at a time,” Dravid said.
