LITTLE CHAMPIONS: C.H. Meghna (Kerala) and Harshal Shahi (Delhi) winners of the Parsvnath National under-9 chess championship. NEW DELHI: Local favourite Harshal Shahi and Kerala’s C.H. Meghna did the needful in the 11th and final round to claim the honours in the Parsvnath National under-9 chess championship at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra here on Tuesday. Harshal defeated Tamil Nadu’s Jerome Jorge Ebenezer to tally 10 points from 11 rounds. The bespectacled Harshal needed only a draw to take the title but declined Ebenezer draw-offer to win in 47 moves. He finished one-point clear of Gujarat’s Jeet Jain. Among the girls, Meghna accepted a draw-offer from Tamil Nadu’s K. Niveditha to reach nine points. Top seed Goa’s Ivana Furtado matched Meghna’s aggregate by beating teammate Riya Savant. Meghna was adjudged the champion due to her superior tiebreak score.
