BJP charged with forcing mid-term polls on people Concern over privatisation of education HASSAN: M.G. Prithvi, Hassan district committee president of the Students’ Federation of India, and district secretary S. Ravi have appealed to the people to defeat communal forces such as the Bharatiya Janata Party in the elections. Addressing a students’ conference of the outfit here on Tuesday, they charged the BJP with forcing mid-term elections on the people. Although compulsory primary education had been guaranteed in the Constitution, successive governments had failed to ensure it, the leaders regretted. They said the education sector in the country had been liberalised and privatised only because the government could not discharge its responsibilities. CITU district secretary Dharmesh expressed concern over the rising prices of essential commodities, and said no political party had offered concrete solution to the problem. All parties in their manifestos talked of distributing freebies such as colour television sets and subsidised rice, but did not touch upon topics such as free education and controlling price rise.
