Chitradurga: Better roads, proper supply of drinking water, construction of parks, priority to hygiene and curbing illegal mining are among the assurances given by candidates of political parties in the district. Participating in the meet-the-press programme organised by Kriyasheela Patrakartara Vedikehere on Wednesday, candidates made known their plans for the development of Chitradurga constituency. Those who participated in the programme were G.H. Tippareddy of the Congress, S.K. Basavarajan of the Janata Dal (Secular), G.S. Manjunath of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mohammad Nasiruddin of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Shivaprakash of the Janata Dal (United) and S. Sridevi of the Swarna Yuga Party. Mr. Basavarajan said that if he elected he would give priority to roads, water supply, solid waste management and drainage, besides improving parks and developing new ones. Highlighting his achievements, Mr. Tippareddy claimed that he undertook various development projects that focussed on housing, roads and water supply. Women’s developmentMs. Sridevi said she would accord priority to women’s welfare by ensuring comprehensive development through government-sponsored schemes. Mr. Nasiruddin said if elected, he would work towards eliminating corruption . BJP candidate G.S. Manjunath said he would work towards implementing irrigation projects. Mr. Shivaprakash of the Janata Dal (U) promised to give importance to housing and irrigation schemes.
