Two held for defrauding students

VILLUPURAM: The Crime Branch-CID arrested Sekar alias Paruthi Sekar (48) and his aide Palaniappan (28) on charges of defrauding the students of Rayar Teacher Training Institute here on Monday.
CB-CID sources told The Hindu that the institute had obtained permission from the Southern Regional Committee for National Council of Teaching Education for admitting 50 students in the Diploma in Teacher Education course for 2006-07.
However, the institute had admitted over 116 candidates and collected a total fee of over Rs. 80 lakh. Both Sekar and Palaniappan were involved in the collection of fee.
Rayar and Sekar, however, complained of chest pain and were hospitalised.
