BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to consider as per the law an application by a circus company to put up a show at Kumta in Uttara Kannada district. Justice Ravi Malimath passed the order on a petition by Great Prabhat Circus. The company had, last week, petitioned the court after the Assistant Commissioner of Kumta refused to permit it to hold shows. The company, which claims to have been holding shows in the country for more than a century, said though it had obtained no-objection certificate (NoC) from different departments such as the police, electricity board, the Home Guards and the Fire and Emergency Services, the Assistant Commissioner of Kumta was not permitting it to hold shows. The company said it had obtained permission from the Canara Education Society to hold the circus for 32 days from April 25, 2008 at Gibbs High School, Manaki in Kumta. When it first applied to the Assistant Commissioner for permission, the official, on April 2, 2008, asked it to first obtain NoC from different civic and utility agencies. Great Prabhat Circus said though it had obtained an NoC, the official had not permitted it to hold shows. Mr. Ravi Malimath asked the Assistant Commissioner to consider the application and pass orders as per the law.
