Chitradurga excels again in SSLC examination

Staff Correspondent

The district stands second in the State

Chitradurga: The district has secured the second position in the State in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination, with a pass percentage of 79.53 after Chikkodi ( 84.71). It secured 78.61 per cent and was placed 10th in the State last year.

The district was in the fourth position in 2005-06 with a pass percentage of 79.24 per cent.

Contrary to results reflecting the overall performance of the State where girls have fared better, boys of the district have done fairly well. As many as 26,416 students appeared for the examination, of whom 18,871 have passed. As many as 9,747 boys and 9,174 girls respectively have cleared the examination.

Better coordination

Attributing the success to the efforts of students and teachers, Deputy Director of Public Instruction L. Rangappa said better coordination between them proved crucial for the good result.

He said the department had also taken several steps to ensure that students scored well. He said teachers were asked to identify students who were not performing well and needed help. “While only one preparatory examination was held in most schools of the State, we conducted three such examinations in all schools of the district,” he said.

Besides, schools were instructed to organise debates and group discussions among students of various schools. Phone-in programmes were aired on All India Radio’s local FM channel, where resource persons guided students by answering their queries. “Officials of the department conducted regular review meetings with headmasters and teachers to oversee the students’ progress,” Mr. Rangappa added.
