Closure notices to six steel units

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chairman of the State Control Board G. Rajmohan has ordered issue of closure notices to six steel manufacturing companies following surprise checks.

The chairman issued the order on the basis of findings in surprise checks that the units working at Kanjikode in Palakkad district were not operating pollution control measures properly.

The check, conducted at night, showed that pollution control laws had been breached by the companies. They had also broken agreements signed on the basis of the recommendations of the expert committee of Central Pollution Control Board, an official release said.

Officials conducted checks at Mineral Alloys and Forgings, Surabha Ispat and A. P. Steel on April 21.

Fareed Steels, P. P. S. Steels and Padma Balaji Alloys were inspected on April 23, 24 and 28 respectively, the release added .
