Huge haul of country bombs

GUNTUR: The Guntur police in a major breakthrough in fight against faction violence arrested 11 persons and seized a huge haul of country bombs, raw material used for making bombs, sickles and axes from a hideout in Veldurthy village in Guntur district.

Among the arrested were four involved in manufacturing of bombs.

Cases under section of 5 and 6 of Explosive Substance Act and 27 of Arms Act have been registered against the accused.

The bombs and other deadly weapons were placed in plastic buckets inside a mango orchid at Muttalavagu. The police seized 25 country bombs from Yerram Poli Reddy and a hunting sickle from Srinivasa Reddy.

Explosive raw material was recovered from others. Based on leads provided by the arrested, police nabbed five others and seized another 26 country bombs kept in two buckets and 10 axes.

Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha said on Wednesday that the bombs were targeted to kill Kesireddy China Venkata Reddy and Julakanti Madhava Reddy, both Congress supporters.

They were both accused in the murder case of Julakanti Laxma Reddy and Venkata Reddy in September 2007.
