MEG in quarterfinals
Kayalpatnam: Madras Engineering Group and Centre, Bangalore, entered the quarterfinals of the Maulana Abulkalam Azad Memorial Trophy football tournament with a 4-1 victory over Golden Thread Football Club, Kochi, at USC ground, here on Wednesday.
Arun Singh headed in a flag kick taken by Shiyad to open the account for MEG in the 28th minute. Ramu scored the second goal in the 40th minute.
Golden Thread attacked strongly on resumption and reduced the margin in the 61st minute when Sandish and Vimeesh went down the middle with a bout passing between them, and the latter scored from close range.
MEG enhanced the lead with a goal by Gabriel (75th min.), while Girish completed the tally off a Gabriel’s pass in the 80th minute.
