Teenu holds Nimmy
KOCHI: Ernakulam’s young Teenu Thomas forced defending champion Nimmy A. George, the top seed, to a draw in the second round of the Kerala State women’s chess championship at Kalamassery on Wednesday.
Kozhikode’s A. Niji, the second seed, was in the lead after the opening day’s three rounds with an all-win record, while Nimmy and C.P. Athira were close behind with 2.5 points.
S. Kala, Chief Manager, SBT, CUSAT Branch, inaugurated the championship at the Cochin University’s SMS Hall of Fame.

Third round: Aswathy Balagopalan (2) lost to A. Niji (3); C.P. Athira (2.5) drew with E. Sheena (2); S. Anjana Krishna (2) drew with Teenu Thomas (2); Nimmy George (2.5) bt S. Amrutha (1); A. Neenu (2) bt T. Sreeranjini (1).
Second round: Teenu drew with Nimmy; Niji bt A. Neenu; S. Amrutha lost to Aswathy; Sheena drew with Anjana; R. Aparna lost to Athira.
