Mumbai: Baichung Bhutia named I.M. Vijayan as the best Indian football player he has seen in his career.

“He’s as talented as the World’s best; had he got the right training and other facilities the results would have been better. Probably a few more Indian football players would have delivered better results. Training the right way is important,” Bhutia said at the launch of sportswear Nike’s ‘Train To Win’ programme here on Wednesday.

Other participants in the discussion were Dav Whatmore, Director of Cricket Operations, NCA, Bangalore and Leena Mogre, fitness trainer.

“There was a time we never imagined running, sprinting, strength and power training — all ingredients for success in Olympics sports would one day be part of cricket. It’s fact now. Cricketers do all this,” Whatmore said.

Nike’s Paul Winsper, who has worked with David Boon and David Beckham, also presented the SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction and Quickness) training programme.
