JAIPUR: While power shortage has started troubling people in States such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh, the power distribution companies in Rajasthan have made arrangements to avoid load-shedding during summer for the second consecutive year. The three public sector power discoms in Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur, which together supplied an excess 1.25 crore units of electricity a day to farmers during the rabi crop season, have taken measures for uninterrupted power supply to all categories of consumers during the summer months. The Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam sources said here on Wednesday that the power supply during May and June is likely to reach 10 crore units a day, which would be about 35 lakh units more than last year’s. All arrangements for supply have been made after an assessment of the escalation in demand. The sources pointed out that no power cut was in force in any part of the State following the successful completion of the feeder renovation programme. As many as 27,500 villages in the State are getting domestic electricity of the same quality as that supplied to the urban areas. With the State not getting its share in the un-allotted electricity quota of the Centre and two units of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station having been shut down, the power companies have purchased electricity from other sources at a cost of Rs.1,700 crore to maintain unhindered supply to consumers. According to the sources, 100 MW of electricity a day is being purchased from Himachal Pradesh from May 1, while the arrangements to meet the rising demand have already been made.
