Policeman killed in Maoist attack
HAZARIBAG (JHARKHAND): A wireless supervisor of the police was killed and three other police personnel were wounded in an attack by Maoists at Holong Ghati near Hazaribagh on Wednesday.
Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police told PTI that the vehicle carrying five police personnel from Giridih was attacked by about 50 Maoists, who opened fire and threw bombs.
Police Wireless Officer Oliver Purti died on way to the hospital. Those injured were a Sub-Inspector, a constable and a police driver, whose brave act of keeping the vehicle moving at a high speed despite the bullets raining on it saved the lives of other policemen.“Despite receiving a bullet, Khalko [the driver] courageously drove till he reached a BSF hospital some distance away,” he said.
The Maoists later warned the drivers of other vehicles plying on the Hazaribagh-Dhanbad road via Bishnugarh and Bagodar (NH-100) not to move, resulting in traffic jam for six hours on the route. — PTI
