BANGALORE: It was a day of mixed feelings for schools that are part of The Hindu’s NIE programme on May 4, when results of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination were announced. Many schools had achieved cent per cent pass. But there was a sense of despondency at a few schools as the results did not match their expectations. Some of the managements were surprised as to why those who had done well in the preparatory tests had fared badly in the final exam. First class for allAt Prasiddhi School, Vasanthanagar, all the 46 students who had appeared for the examination passed with first class. Seven students scored more than 90 per cent marks. Mehendi K. Javali emerged topper, scoring 605 out of 625, while Sandhya V. scored centum in mathematics. “We are happy with the results. We were a bit worried as to how our students will fare in Kannada, as many of them are north Indians. All of them have fared well in Kannada as well as in mathematics. This probably is the result of good teaching and individual attention,” said Principal V. Meenakshi. ‘Maths paper tough’At Schoenstatt St. Mary’s High School, Tumkur Road, 47 students secured first class. Chethan S., with 93.12 per cent, was the school topper. Principal Joyce said that the tough mathematics paper had affected the results, and four students had failed in the subject. CounsellingAnitha H. Jain of Holy Angels School, RPC Layout, has scored 123 marks in the Kannada paper. “All our students scored well in mathematics and in the languages. We completed the portions in November. We conducted many class tests besides three preparatory tests. We also held counselling sessions for students as well as parents. Our efforts have yielded expected results,” said Radhika, a teacher. Surya Sharma, who secured 93.28 per cent marks, is the school topper. At Sri Vani Education Centre, Basaveshwaranagar, 160 students passed with first class. Mohan Kumar Notagar has emerged the school topper scoring 606 marks. Five students of the school scored centum in social sciences, while Nagalakshmi Nayak scored 125 marks in Sanskrit.
