HYDERABAD: Just consider this. Kapil Dev and Clive Lloyd going out for the toss at Lord’s next month on June 25. If everything goes according to plan, there would be a 10-over match between the victorious Kapil Dev’s team with the West Indian team that played against India in the 1983 World Cup match. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) being indifferent to organising the silver jubilee celebrations, ‘Little Master’ Sunil Gavaskar has taken up the responsibility to organise them in his own style. As part of the programme, a high-profile event will be organised in Dubai on June 19 and 20 before the team returns home to participate in a celebrity golf event in Mumbai or Delhi followed by a commemorative dinner. Grand plansThe entire World Cup winning squad will then leave for London on June 23 and will have a dinner at the august Long Room in Lord’s. Plans are afoot to invite all West Indian players who played in the 1983 World Cup to join for at least a 10-over game against Kapil Dev’s team. However, the organisers are not yet clear as to how many West Indian cricketers will be available on that particular day for a match, though all of them are being invited for the celebratory dinner at Lord’s. The Hyderabadi touch to all this nostalgic show is presented by P. R. Man Singh, manager of the 1983 World Cup squad. Come June, Gavaskar’s plans to re-enact India’s greatest moment in cricketing history might just unfold to the delight of cricket fans across the world.
