MADURAI: Members of the Tamil Nadu Noon Meal Employees’ Association staged a demonstration near the Collectorate here and courted arrest on Wednesday.

The agitation was to draw the Government’s attention to the need for fixing a time scale for the employees and payment of pension. The members wanted the Government to sanction increment to the employees based on their experience and fill vacancies with eligible candidates.

A. Selvam, district secretary, Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association, said that it was high time the Government fixed time scale for noon meal employees as the pay-scales were fixed two-and-a-half decades ago.

He said that the employees, including 566 women, who courted arrest, were released later.
