Coimbatore: Bankers should speed up disbursement of financial assistance under the Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yozana (PMRY), Collector V. Palanikumar said on Tuesday. The Collector came up with this observation at the quarterly review meeting of the bankers’ for the first quarter of the fiscal 2008-09 held at the Collectorate on Tuesday. Mr. Palanikumar pointed out that for the fiscal 2007-08 as against the target of 1,945 beneficiaries, approval was accorded for 1,949 persons for disbursement of Rs. 14.41 lakh. 403 bankers in the district accorded sanction for these proposals of which 1,436 persons were provided with Rs. 11.01 lakh. The Collector urged the bankers to disburse the amount to the remaining persons before May 31. He pointed out that though the implementation of PMRY ended on March 31, 2008, the disbursement period had been extended up to May 31. The same had been communicated to all the 403 bankers and co-ordinators through separate letters, the General Manager of District Industries Centre (DIC), S. Asokan said. Mr. Palanikumar said that PMRY scheme had been implemented excellently in the district during the period from 1993 to 2008. He also announced prizes to bank managers and co-ordinators for 100 per cent disbursal of loans to the target beneficiaries. It was stated in the meeting that Indus Ind Bank and Saurashtra Bank had not disbursed even one loan under the PMRY.
