Staff Reporter

Singanallur station lacks amenities

TIRUPUR: The Rail Passengers Welfare Association, which represents over 5,000 regular commuters between Tirupur and Coimbatore, urged the railway authorities to run Coimbatore – Nagercoil Passenger (384) and Palakkad Town -Tiruchi Fast Passenger (888) on time.

In a memorandum to the General Manager of Southern Railway, its vice-president S.V. Raju said thousands of passengers have been affected due to the late arrival of these trains in Tirupur.

Hence, they could not reach their work places on time. During return journey, the Nagercoil - Coimbatore passenger train was always delayed.

Lifeline

Terming these trains lifeline for the workers and office-goers, Mr. Raju said that the authorities should take necessary steps to run the trains on time.

The Singanallur railway station, which was being used regularly by thousands of passengers, had been neglected by the authorities.

The station does not have any basic amenities to be called a railway station.

Steps

The association appealed to the official to take appropriate steps to improve the Peelamedu railway station and stopping of all major trains there to decongest Coimbatore Junction.

Demanding early completion of the doubling work between Coimbatore North and Irugur, the association urged the railway authorities to introduce more trains between Erode and Coimbatore to reduce volume of traffic during peak hours on the congested national highway.
