Special Correspondent
KARAIKAL: A microchip was implanted on Tuesday on 10-year-old Ganesan, the temple elephant of the famous Lord Saneeswara Bhagawan Temple at Tirunallar in Karaikal district in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The microchip with a secret code was fixed on the left ear of the elephant by a team of veterinary doctors, including Dr. Manoharan from Coimbatore, under the supervision of Animal Husbandry department of Puducherry government.
Microchips are being implanted on the elephants in temples and in forests throughout the country as per the instructions from the Union Ministry of Forests and Environment and the movements of the animal could be watched through a centralized computer network.
