COIMBATORE: A 13-year old inmate of a juvenile home here died of injuries allegedly caused by fellow inmates.
The Coimbatore City Police have registered a case against six inmates of the Juvenile Observation Home on Avanashi Road.
According to the police, Mubarak Ali, a “street child,” was lodged in the home on May 3 after he was found roaming in the Gandhipuram area. On Tuesday afternoon, he complained of stomach pain and threw up. He was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), treated as outpatient and brought back to the home. The boy again complained of stomach pain and started vomiting in the evening. He was admitted to the CMCH in the evening and was under treatment. He died early on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, after the boy complained that he was beaten up by the six inmates, the City Police had registered a case against them on charges of wrongful restraint and causing grievous hurt under sections 341 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code.
On Wednesday, the police altered the case as Murder (Sec 302) of IPC. Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) inquiry is underway. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the victim was beaten up after a wordy duel. The deceased has been identified as the son of Musthafa of Erisanampatti near Pollachi.
