More time for regularising layouts under study: Stalin
Special Correspondent
M.K.Stalin
CHENNAI: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday said he would consider granting more time for people to pay up regularisation fee for unapproved layouts. A decision would be taken after discussions, he informed the Assembly during question hour.
He was responding to C. Govindasamy (Communist Party of India-Marxist), who pointed out that 10 to 15 per cent people were yet to pay the regularisation fee. He wanted the Minister to extend the deadline.
(The government had fixed December 31, 2007 as the deadline for the scheme. Even this was a relaxed deadline — the government had extended the regularisation scheme by a year. In Tiruppur and Coimbatore districts alone, the government had an overwhelming response and received about Rs.70 crore through the process.)
Old buildings
As many as 43 taluk offices in the State functioned from buildings that were over a century old, Revenue Minister I. Periyasamy informed the Assembly. Another 21 were over 90 years old. Of these, 10 were in bad shape and the Chief Minister had sanctioned funds to construct new buildings.
Replying to a question from S. Rajakumar (Congress), the Minister said the building at Mayiladuthurai was 132 years old. The department had sanctioned Rs.90 lakh to take up maintenance work in taluk offices in Nagapattinam district. All taluk offices could not be shifted to new buildings soon and hence, maintenance work was being taken up.
Animal Husbandry Minister P. Geetha Jeevan said her department was willing to set up mobile veterinary clinics if MLAs came forward to set apart a portion of their constituency development fund for them. Replying to question from H. Vasantha Kumar (Congress), she said two members had offered money from their funds for such clinics.
In Nanguneri union, the government would consider setting up a new veterinary hospital. At the start of the session, the Assembly observed a two-minute silence over the death of former MLA A. Arumugham.
