A unique music show

100 visually-challenged musicians will create an ambience going beyond the beauty of all sights, seen and unseen


KOCHI: Sight of golden sunsets might be denied to them, but not the essence of it.

About 100 visually-challenged musicians will create an ambience that will go beyond the beauty of all sights, seen and unseen.

The Guruvayur Melppathur auditorium, which hosts Chembai Music Festival and rare temple arts, will stage a unique performance on Friday.

Degree holders

The event being organised by the Akhilbharatheeya Dhrushtiheen Kalyan Sangh would witness these visually-challenged musicians, including the famous ones, degree and postgraduate degree holders in music, music teachers, music college principals and music students coming together to showcase their skills on Soordas Jayanthi.

The concert will begin at 9 a.m. with the rendering of Pancharatna Keerthana and will last till 10.30 a.m.

This will be followed by individual music performances.

K. Omanakutty, who inaugurates the concert, and Prof. Parassala Ravi, retired principal of Swati Thirunal College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram, will lead the rendering of Pancharatna Keerthana with violin played by Guruvayur Radhika as background.

Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, exponent of Ekathathri veena and vocal; acclaimed musicians Prof. Ashttaman Pillai, RLV College of Music, Thripunithura; Prof. Vijayan, Swati Thirunal College of Music; Irijalakkuda Vijayakumar, All India Radio artist; Vadayar Sasi and Changanassery Gopakumar, Mridangama artists; and B. Sasikumar would participate.

Poet and film lyricist S. Rameshan Nair will inaugurate the Soordas commemorate meeting to be held at the Samooha Madam in the western gate at 5.30 p.m.

Novelist K.B. Sreedevi will deliver the Soordas commemorative lecture.
