Special Correspondent

Its container vessels are on the standby to carry aid to the victims

HYDERABAD: Maxicon Container Line (MCL), the group company of Hyderabad-based Seaways Shipping Ltd, is keeping both its container vessels MV ‘Marina Star 2’ and MV ‘Ellen S’ standby to deploy the same for carriage of aid cargo to the victims of the killer cyclone, Nargis, in Myanmar, according to a release.

Maxicon has started its direct container service between India and Myanmar recently by deploying the two vessels.

Presently, ships are stranded both inside and outside the port of Yangon with cargo on board, following the closure of the port after the disaster caused by the cyclone. The port authorities declared the port shut for two to four weeks to clear the channels for safe navigation of vessels. Maxicon Container Line’s two vessels with laden containers for discharge at the port, are waiting in the region, for the navigation to be restored in the harbour.

Maxicon also set aside funds towards relief materials to be despatched as quickly as possible, after getting permission from the authorities concerned.
