BHUBANESWAR: The birth anniversary of the 12th century saint-poet Jayadev, the creator of the immortal ‘Geet Govind’ was celebrated throughout the State on Thursday coinciding with the celebration of the age-old auspicious ritual of ‘Akshya Trutiya’. While the Government directed all the 30 district collectors to carry out district level celebrations, the departments of culture and information and public relations in collaboration with the Jayadev Foundation Trust hosted a three-day special celebration in the golden triangle of Puri-Konark-Bhubaneswar. Treading the route that saint Sri Chaitanya took his religious procession along with his followers nearly five centuries ago, the three-day ‘sankirtan yatra’ started on Thursday morning from the Ananta Basudev temple on the banks of the Bindusagar tank in Bhubaneswar and headed for Kenduli village where Jayadev was born. The Song and Drama Division of the Government of India and the State Culture Department organised a colourful cultural programme in the village to mark the occasion. The yatra will leave the village on Friday morning and culminate at Kakatpur, famous for the Sarala temple, where a similar cultural programme will be hosted. The religious procession will leave for Konark on Saturday morning and will reach Puri after brief halts at Chandrabhaga and Ramachandi on Konark-Puri marine drive. The concluding day’s celebration in Puri will be held at the Dasavatara Moth, Srinahar and the temple of Jagannath.
