No mango mania this summer, folks

Summer is synonymous with mangoes; it is one of those seasonal treats that one looks forward to during the summer months. However, this summer has not been quite the same because unlike previous years when mangoes were plentiful, this year, the market is practically bereft of them. Except for one or two local varieties that were available from pavement vendors in the beginning of March, the luscious king of fruits has not really arrived this time.

Other than the Banginapally or the Malgoa varieties, there is not much choice in the market. Premium mangoes such as Alphonso and Raspuri are all exported. Those who wish to eat mangoes this season will have to get them on the Internet, where Alphonsos are available at Rs.600 a dozen.
