TIRUNELVELI: The Transport Commissioner, Chandra Prakash Singh, has warned the three-seater autorickshaws violating permit conditions and plying in competition with mini-buses by picking up passengers at the bus stops. In a statement released by the Office of Regional Transport Officer here, the Commissioner has said that the High Court has issued certain directions to be strictly adhered to in case of three-seater autorickshaws. The directions are that autorickshaws should not carry passengers more than the permitted seating capacity. No conductor should be allowed to travel in autorickshaws along with the driver. The autorickshaws should not be allowed to stop and pick up the passengers at least 200 feet before the bus stop. Autos should be parked only in the zones earmarked for the purpose. The Transport Commissioner has directed all Regional Transport Officers to conduct special checks in this regard and take stringent action against those drivers as per the section 86 of Motor Vehicles Act, if they violate the directions, the statement said.
