NYC protest at Supplyco office

Staff Reporter

Against State government’s ‘apathy’ to price rise

KOLLAM: Activists of the Nationalist Youth Congress (NYC) barged into the office of the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) here on Thursday in protest against the alleged apathy on the part of the State government to solve the food grain shortage and control the price rise.

The police intervened and blocked the demonstrators. They then squatted outside the office and held a dharna. The dharna was inaugurated by NYC State general secretary Nedumankavu Gopalakrishnan. He said when the people were hit hard by the spiralling prices and food grain shortage, the Ministers were trying to wriggle out of the situation by passing the buck on each other.

He alleged that the State government had taken no effective measures to control the prices. He warned of an agitation if the government continued to ignore the situation.

Earlier, the NYC activists marched to the Supplyco office from Chinnakada Rest House junction. The march was led by NYC district president Valathungal Sreeraj.
