Inaugurating an orientation programme for the officials of the Agriculture department and other allied wings here on Thursday, District Collector Shashibhushan Kumar said the officials spearheading the yatras must be abreast with the issues that the farmers had been facing in the villages.

Officials of the horticulture, sericulture and fisheries would also participate in the yatras and apprise the farmers of the Government schemes. The farmers would be explained the latest changes in agriculture and other farm-related issues including the availability of crop loans. They would also create awareness on crop pattern and selection of seeds and scientific utilization of water.

Some of the extension officers pointed out that the harvesters were making their way to the villages as farmers were moving towards farm mechanization for want of farm workers. The NREGA implementation had given people work.
