No recovery of excess compensation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union government has decided not recover excess amounts paid by way of reparations to Indians who had suffered losses during the Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. The United Nations Compensation Commission had found during internal audit that 8,500 applicants had been paid excess amounts and sought recovery of the amount through banks. Kerala had requested the Centre not to recover the amount as the compensation received had been less than the actual losses and many had spent the amount for medical treatments and other purposes. – Special Correspondent
