LNJP Hospital strike called off

NEW DELHI: Much to the relief of patients, resident doctors and interns at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital here called off their strike on Thursday evening following an assurance by the hospital authorities and senior Delhi Government officials that their demands would be fulfilled.
The doctors had gone on a flash strike on Wednesday night after angry relatives of a patient who died in the medicine ward in the hospital beat up on-duty doctors and nurses on Tuesday night. Work at the hospital remained affected with over 500 doctors and interns striking work.
A group of representative from the hospital met Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta on Thursday with a list of demands. LNJP Resident Doctors’ Association president Kuldeep Kumar said: “We have been assured that our demands would be looked into. We have been demanding additional security and better working conditions. Mr. Mehta has asked the hospital to bring in centralised oxygen supply within the next seven days and has said that more Group D staff and security personnel will be provided to the hospital.”
