Rubber Board’s activities lauded

Indian brand: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy releasing the log of Indian natural rubber at an international seminar on natural rubber in Kochi on Thursday. —

KOCHI: Rubber Board’s achievements in extension activities are commendable and it continues to offer the best of services to the farmers, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy said here on Thursday.

Mr. Chandy was inaugurating a two-day international conference here on natural rubber extension and development as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the launching of extension service by the Rubber Board.

Sebastian Paul, MP, presided over the inaugural function which is being attended by delegates from India and abroad.

Rubber Board Chairman Sajen Peter welcomed the gathering. He recalled the beginning of the extension activities and the achievements made by the Board through these activities.

‘Rubber Karshakarkkoru kaipusthakam,’ compiled by K.G. Satheeshkumar, was released at the occasion.

P. Mukundan Menon, former Rubber Production Commissioner, was honoured at the function for his contributions to the extension activities of the Rubber Board.

Mr. Chandy also released the logo for Indian natural rubber.

The logo was developed by Indian Brand Equity Foundation and will be the mark of quality Indian natural rubber in the international market.

The technical sessions that followed dealt with extension strategies, extension activities by Rubber Board, impact of rubber plantations on the growth of productivity of small rubber holdings in Kerala, etc.
