A family’s wait to perform last rites

Awaits return of Chiragoni Anjaiah’s body from Abu Dhabi

VELIMINEDU (NALGONDA DT.): The 42-year-old Bhadramma has been wailing inconsolably for the last four days while desperately waiting for the body of her husband Chiragoni Anjaiah (48) to come to Veliminedu village in Chityal mandal from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

“Only today we received an official communication from Abu Dhabi. My father reportedly died of heart attack and we are waiting for the body to perform last rites,” Ch.Suresh, the eldest son of the deceased, told The Hindu.

Anjaiah had migrated to the Abu Dhabi around 24-years-ago in search of greener pastures. He worked as a labourer in a petrol well for a paltry sum.

Expected arrival

“He used to come to the village every two years and stays here for four months. He used to take care of the family very well,” Bhadramma said.

He was expected to come here on May 21.

“We were eagerly waiting for his arrival, but the news of his sudden death came as a thunderbolt. The Government must intervene to bring the body as early as possible,” Suresh said.

Angaiah’s other two sons—Ravi (22) and Sreenu (21)—are also trying their best to get in touch with their father’s friends at the work place.

Herculean task

He was reportedly working at Khan Saheb Company at Buhasa camp in Abu Dhabi, according to the family members.

More than 100 members from this village are working in various places in UAE. Bringing their bodies home in the event of their demise in the UAE has been a Herculean task for many family members of the village.

No response

“My father’s company has to clear the bonus. Whenever our people meet with death there, the officials there are not responding properly. Something should be done to attend to this problem,” Suresh pleaded.

According to information, the hospital authorities handed over Anjaiah’s body to a couple of his relatives on Thursday and they are trying to complete official formalities to bring the body as early as possible.
