KADAPA: CPI is independently contesting the ensuing byelections and mustering support of intellectuals and other sections of people, its district secretary G. Obulesu said on Thursday. Addressing the CPI district executive meeting, he said bourgeois parties were treating the bypolls as a ‘rehearsal’ for the next general elections slated in 2009. Congress, Telugu Desam Party and Telangana Rashtra Samithi were spending crores of rupees for ensuring win of their candidates, he alleged. The parties were also adopting populist measures to woo the electorate, he remarked. ‘Duping people’TDP leaders were acting as if their nine-year rule did not put the people to hardships, Mr. Obulesu wondered. TDP was trying to dupe the people by its ‘Mee Kosam’ yatra and promises to scrap belt shops and give free LPG connections if it gained power, he alleged. Congress was promoting atrocities and people were discontent on the law and order situation, he remarked. The CPI leader accused the Government of failing to contain the steep price rise. CPI national and State leaderships have called for sustained agitations on people’s problems and partymen should gear up for the purpose, CPI district assistant secretary P. Krishnamurthy said. CPI leaders B. Ramaiah, L. Nagasubba Reddy, W. Ramu, C. Subramanyam, S. Venkatasubbaiah, Rythu Sangham leader M.V. Subba Reddy, Dalita Hakkula Porata Samithi president B. Obulaiah, Mahila Samakhya leader Vijayalakshmi and area secretaries participated.
