Sale of temple land with forged documents alleged

Staff Reporter

Tirunelveli Collector urged to hold enquiry and take the offenders to task

TIRUNELVELI: Even as selling of lands by creating fake records is alarmingly on the rise in the district, the Hindu Munnani has urged the Collector, G. Prakash, to initiate action against those who allegedly created forged documents to sell a piece of temple land at Palayamkottai, worth Rs.2 crore, to private parties.

According to the district secretary of HM, S. Udaiyaar, the disputed land on the arterial Thiruvananthapuram High Road, measuring about 32 cents, was offered to Sri Muthaaramman Temple in Vannarpet (according to the registration book 4, volume 140, page 169 at District Registrar Office) in 1993.

Revenue from this wet land should be used for conducting regular rituals in the temple, as per the conditions laid down in the document 386, registered in the District Registrar Office.

“However, this land has been sold to private parties by creating forged documents with the help of some officials in the Department of Registration.

Hence, the Collector should conduct an enquiry to find out the fact and recover the land,” Mr. Udaiyaar said adding that everyone who was involved in this scam should be taken to task.

He also urged the district administration to instruct the Department of Registration not to register this land in dispute in future also, so that restoring the land with the temple would be easier.
