Hooda denounces “politics of bullet, cane”

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday denounced the “politics of bullet and cane” practised by his predecessors and asserted that he believed in winning over people through rapid development.

Addressing an election meeting at Khanpur Kalan in Gohana constituency of the Haryana Assembly to canvass for Congress candidate Jagbir Singh Malik, he appealed to the electorate to strengthen his hands by casting votes in favour of the Congress. The Congress victory in the upcoming by-election, necessitated after the disqualification of Dharampal Singh Malik for defecting to the Haryana Janhit Congress, would help in safeguarding the interests of the farmers and other weaker sections of society, he said.

Mr. Hooda said the outcome of the three by-elections in Adampur, Gohana and Indri on May 22 was crystal-clear and the Congress victory would be an “endorsement” of the policies and programmes of his regime.

Mr. Hooda asserted that Mr. Dharampal Singh Malik had quit the Congress before completion of his five-year tenure as MLA and this clearly indicated that he was not dedicated to the development of his constituency.

Haryana Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said the Hooda regime had implemented several programmes for the welfare of all sections of society. Mr. Hooda also addressed meetings in Shamri,Bhainswal, Joli, Lath, Anwali, Giwana, Rithal, Kahni, Rukhi and Gohana. Meanwhile, Deepinder Singh Hooda, Congress MP from Rohtak, asserted that there was a wave in favour of the Congress and the party nominees would win all the three by-elections.

He was addressing election meetings in Indri constituency along with the MP from Karnal, Arvind Sharma. Earlier, talking to the media at Karnal, the Chief Minister said that the Government was purchasing power at Rs.9 per unit from other States and assured the farmers of adequate power supply.
