Anantapur to hold State meet from Nov. 6 to 9

Hyderabad: The Stag Andhra Pradesh inter-district and State table tennis championships will be held at Anantapur from November 6 to 9, according to S.M. Sultan, Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association (APTTA).

Sultan told The Hindu that the APTTA would bid for the sub-junior National championships to be staged at Vijayawada in the third week of December, when the National body has its annual general meeting (AGM) at Delhi shortly.

While announcing the State calendar he said the eligibility for various age groups would be as follows: for youth those born between January 1, 1988 and December 31, 1991; juniors: on or after January 1, 1992; sub-juniors: on or after January 1, 1995; cadets: on or after January 1, 1997.

Players competing in age groups must submit original date of birth certificates issued by their respective schools, municipal corporations to their respective district secretaries or academies, so as to ensure they reach the Chairman, Technical Committee, APTTA before May 30.

Only APTTA registered players may take part in the tournaments listed below. Those who wish to protest against other players on the grounds of age may do so by paying a fee of Rs. 1,000 to the APTTA and furnish evidence of their claims with the Chief Referee well before the event(s) begin(s).

June 11 to 14: YMCA, Hyderabad; July 5 to 8: St. Paul’s Academy, Hyderabad; July 25 to 28: St. Paul’s High School, Hyderabad; Aug. 8 to 10: Darga Pentappa Memorial, L.B. Stadium, Hyderabad; Aug. 23 to 25: Nalagonda State-ranking tournament; Sept. 5 to 7: Gujrati Seva Mandal tournament, Secunderabad.

Sept. 12 to 14: Visakhapatnam State-ranking tournament; Sept. 19 to 21: Ranga Reddy; Oct. 2 to 5: Anandanagar Welfare Association, Hyderabad.

Oct. 17 to 19: Kakinada, East Godavari district; Oct. 24 to 26: Inter-corporate tournament, Hyderabad; Nov. 6 to 9: Stag A.P. inter-district & State Championship-2008, Anantapur; Nov. 15 to Dec. 25: Coaching camp for State teams selected to participate in Nationals-2008. — Principal Correspondent
