With the defeat, India failed to qualify for the World Group final to be staged in Mexico in September. Rousing startRatnika Batra gave a rousing start by dropping only a solitary game in the first singles against Xin Wen. However, Yi Zhong played a key role for China thereafter winning both her singles and doubles. India’s best bet, Rashmi Teltumbe was restricted to the doubles, but could not pull her weight. Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, China and Korea made the grade by winning the quarterfinals. India will play second seed Japan in the first of the positional matches on Friday.
