Noon meal workers continue agitation

KARUR: A total of 186 members of the Tamil Nadu Noon Meal Staff Association who staged a road roko here on Thursday were arrested by the police. Continuing their stir to press their demands including graded scale of pay and monthly pension scheme, the noon meal staff were staging a road roko for the second day of their three-day stir programme all over the State.

Those arrested included 156 women.

On Thursday, the noon meal workers gathered near the Taluk Office here and staged a road rook.

The protest was inaugurated by the Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association district president T. Samuel Sundarapandian while the Tamil Nadu Noon Meal Staff Employees Association district vice-president T. Maniammal presided over the protest.

Police rounded up the protestors and took them away.

Later, all the arrested persons were released in the evening.

On Friday they have plans to hold a demonstration near the Mini Bus Stand here.

Nagapattinam

For the second consecutive day on Thursday, about 200 noon-meal workers were arrested by police when they attempted to picket the Government office here pressing their charter of demands as per the State-wide call given by their association.

Earlier, they took out a rally in the town.
