Administration accused of harassing parties
Correspondent
CHIKMAGALUR: The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the district administration of misusing the model code of conduct to harass political parties by imposing restrictions on their campaigning.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, M.K. Pranesh, member of the State committee of the BJP, pointed out that use of loudspeakers had been permitted in other districts but banned in Chikmagalur.
He said permission was sought from the authorities to conduct a public meeting on the district playground here. However, permission was not granted till the last minute making it impossible for the party to organise the meeting, he added.
The party had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard, he said and wanted such officials to be transferred immediately.
