Islam is against terrorism: Jamiat chief

Vinay Kumar

NEW DELHI: Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Arshad Madni on Thursday asserted that terrorism and extremism were against the very basic tenets of Islam and criticised attempts to hold Islam responsible for the rise of extremism, violence and political unrest in various parts of the world.

He said the Darul Uloom, Deoband, recently launched an anti-terror campaign and well-attended meetings were held in Hyderabad and Kanpur where Islamic scholars and heads of seminaries presented Islam in the correct perspective. In the same series, he told reporters, another anti-terror conference would be held here on Saturday.

Maulana Madni appealed to all secular forces to keep at bay communal and divisive forces.
