Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: The district health administration has taken preventive measures to check the spread of infectious diseases as part of the pre-monsoon cleaning drive being held in the district from May 9 to 15, according to the district medical officer. Clean-up scheduleCleaning activities will be held in public places like bus stands, markets and railway station on May 9. On May 10 and 11, health workers, volunteers, Kudumbasree members and anganwadi workers will visit houses and encourage people to do source-reduction systematically. Hospital development committees in health care institutions and parent-teacher associations in schools will take up cleaning of their premises on May 12. The cleaning activities on May 13 will focus on government and other public offices. On May 14, drains, sewers and canals will be cleared of garbage to prevent water stagnation. Shops and hotels have been asked to clean their premises on May 15. ‘Dry day’ would be observed every Sunday, when individuals and institutions are expected to examine their premises and remove all water receptacles and drain off stagnant water. Steps have also been taken to complete garbage clearance, chlorination of wells and other water sources, spraying, fever survey and vector studies before the monsoon begins, the DMO said.
