EAMCET passes off peacefully

It is over: Candidates coming out of an examination centre after the completion of engineering stream of EAMCET in Vijayawada on Thursday.

VIJAYAWADA: EAMCET – 2008 conducted for admissions into engineering, medical and other allied professional courses, passed off peacefully in the city amidst scenes of parents and well-wishers waiting outside examination centres for hours throughout the day.

Minor traffic hiccups were noticed in some areas, where more number of students appeared for the test. At some centres, the officials took additional measures to ensure that candidates did not face any inconvenience.

At V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College (VRSEC), Kanuru, the staff helped students who arrived at the last minute to reach the examination hall within the stipulated time. In a few cases, where arrival was late by two to five minutes, the entry was denied citing strict rules issued by the EAMCET committee.

EAMCET regional coordinator and VRSEC principal K.R.K. Prasad said that the turnout for engineering stream was 98.75 per cent while it was 98.8 per cent in respect of medicine stream. Of the 24,355 students given hall tickets for engineering stream, 24,057 students turned up for the examination. In medicine stream, 10,322 students out of 10,458 appeared for the test.

Providing comprehensive details about the test, Dr. Prasad said it was conducted at 50 centres for engineering and another 18 centres for medicine. An invigilator each was appointed for every 20 students and the test was conducted amidst tight security arrangements.

Compared to last few days, temperature was a little less on Thursday providing a relief to parents and well-wishers. “Thank God, it is less hot today. Otherwise, we will have suffered a lot,” said K. Manohar Rao, a parent.

The examination paper with code ‘P’ was selected for engineering stream while the code selected for medicine was ‘S’. The authorities sent several sets of question papers with alphabet codes and the actual one was conveyed after the draw was taken in Hyderabad a couple of hours before the commencement of the test in the morning and afternoon sessions.
