CHENNAI: The driver of a lorry died on the spot when he lost control of the vehicle and fell into a pit near Muttukadu on Thursday. According to police, the lorry laden with tender coconuts was bound for Chennai from Puducherry when the accident occurred near the bridge at Muttukadu around 1.15 p.m. The victim was identified as Ramanujam (47) of Villupuram. Lorry hits shopAn unidentified person died when a container lorry hit a petty shop near the Madhavaram roundabout early on Thursday. The driver was trying to take the vehicle in reverse, when it hit a trench near the petty shop, according to the police. The driver lost control and the vehicle ran over a person sleeping near the shop around 2.30 a.m. Police have sent the body to Stanley Government Hospital. The driver of the vehicle is absconding. Three injuredThree persons were injured when a truck ran into a roadside hotel in Medavakkam. According to police, the driver of the vehicle, which was bound for Tambaram from Medavakkam, lost control and hit a pedestrian before ramming the wall of a small hotel nearby. Police said the accident occurred as the driver lost control when he was trying to take a turn. The injured included the pedestrian, 32-year-old Revathi of Avvayar Street Medavakkam, driver Murugan (50) and cleaner Ilango (59). All three have been admitted to Government General Hospital. Pallikaranai police are investigating. TheftThe Pattinapakkam police are investigating a case of theft based on a complaint lodged by the wife of a Deputy Superintendent of Police. According to police, Rama, a resident of Mandaveli police quarters, had gone to the Ayyappan temple in Raja Annamalai Puram on Wednesday morning. When she returned she found the gold chain missing from her neck.
