Journalists assaulted at village in Hiriyur

Jadegondanahalli (Hiriyur taluk): Independent candidate of Hiriyur, D. Sudhakar and his supporters assaulted the Chitradurga TV9 reporter and the Staff Correspondent of The Hindu here on Thursday. The presspersons were questioning him on whether he had hired children for canvassing. He denied employing them for campaign work even though the TV9 reporter said that he had video footage of children admitting that they were being paid to canvass for him. This led to an altercation between his supporters and the journalists. His supporters assaulted the journalists. The video footage of the TV9 reporter is now in Mr. Sudhakar’s possession.

The journalists have lodged a complaint with the Hiriyur police.
