Registration official gets advance bail

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has granted anticipatory bail to an Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Registration and his wife in connection with a case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In his order on the petitions filed by the two, Justice T.Sudanthiram said that the couple should appear before the investigating officer (IO) within two weeks. In the event of their arrest, the couple should be released on bail on their executing a bond for Rs.25,000 with two sureties each for a like sum to the satisfaction of the IO. They should appear before the IO as and when required for interrogation after release on bail.

The petitioners, N. Gopalakrishnan, AIG of Registration, Salem East, and his wife submitted they had been falsely implicated in the case. Seeking anticipatory bail, they said they were ready to cooperate with the investigators.

The Government Advocate, Criminal side, said from January 1, 1998 to January 31, 2006 Mr. Gopalakrishnan was found to have acquired pecuniary resources and properties valued at Rs.61.92 lakh in his name and in the name of his wife and son.
