Three get Red Cross award

BANGALORE: May 8 is celebrated as World Red Cross Day every year and this year’s theme is ‘Working together to combat climate change’.
The Karnataka State branch of the Indian Red Cross Society gave away awards to people and organisations in recognition of their contribution for social well-being.
Honour
H.K. Nagaraj was honoured for his contribution to health care services, and Raju Chandrashekar’s and K.C. Shivarudra Setty’s for their services during tsunami relief operations.
To commemorate this day, physically challenged persons were given wheelchairs and hearing aids.
Speaking on the occasion, Lokayukta Santosh Hegde said government funds for social causes were not reaching the intended.
Wooday P .Krishna, Vice-Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society, spoke.
Awareness
The Red Cross Society aims at raising awareness among the people about health consequences owing to climate change and advocating interdisciplinary partnerships from the local to international levels.
