NEW DELHI: Japanese consumer electronics major Sony on Thursday launched a range of high definition (HD) digital imaging products, including digital cameras and camcorders, in the Indian market.

The five new Sony Cybershot cameras have been priced between Rs. 15,990 and Rs. 19,990, while the two Handycam camcorders come with a price tag of Rs. 49,990 and Rs. 59,990.

It also launched three digital photo printers priced between Rs. 5,990 and Rs. 9,990.

Sony also introduced ‘S-Frame’ digital photo frames that offer vibrant LCD screens and stylish designs. Inside the black bezels of these thin frames is an advanced image processor that scales and displays images up to 48 megapixels, making the frames capable of handling photos taken with the most advanced digital cameras. The new frames, prices of which are yet to be disclosed, offer convenient features such as ten slide show variations, clock and calendar views, and two index modes so that one can preview several photos at once.

Launching the new products, Sony India Pvt. Ltd. Managing Director, Masaru Tamagawa, said these products, which incorporate super intelligent digital technology and revolutionary features, provide consumers with simple and innovative ways to capture, print and share digital images.

Stating that the digital still camera market was expected to grow by 50 per cent this year to touch 12 lakh units, Mr. Tamagawa said the company was targeting a 40 per cent share, while in the camcorders segment, which is likely to see sales touching two lakh units this year, Sony was eyeing a 75 per cent market share.

Mr. Tamagawa also said that Sony India would spend Rs. 200 crore this fiscal on advertising and promotion of the entire range of consumer electronics, out of which Rs. 60 crore would be spent only on digital imaging products. Sony had overtaken Canon in still camera sales during Diwali last year and registered sales of 15,099 units in March 2008.
