Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders rode small but useful knocks from David Hussey (26) and Sourav Ganguly (20) and late order strikes by Wriddhiman Saha (17) and Murali Kartik (17) put up a challenging 129 for seven in 16 overs in a rain reduced DLF Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens here on Thursday. In what could be a do-or-die battle for the two beleaguered sides in the Twenty20 tournament, Knight Riders recovered from 46 for three to 129 to set Royal Challengers Bangalore a tough but achievable target of 130. Knight Riders made first use of the pitch on winning the toss in a match reduced to 16-over-a-side affair after a Nor’wester lashed the city. Having made two changes to the squad that last played and lost to Kings XI Punjab, Knight Riders opened with Aakash Chopra and Brad Hodge only to lose the former for two runs. Skipper Sourav Ganguly went in to greet Dale Steyn with a boundary and the two looked set for a big knock. Soon it was 20 for two when Hodge was taken by Vinay Kumar off Zaheer Khan. David Hussey joined his captain and the two did well to take the score to 46 when Ganguly was run out for a well made 20. The scores: Kolkata Knight Riders: A. Chopra lbw b Steyn 2, B. Hodge c V.
