Capital stepping up security

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The alarming rate of crime in the Capital has resulted in malls and other commercial public places stepping up security measures to prevent any untoward incidents. With Delhi playing host to several events of national and international significance, security measures at such venues have also attained paramount importance.

A number of security outfits are involved in providing security to various malls and enforcing security measures in VVIP enclosures at the ongoing Indian Premier League matches at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium.

“Security has surely become an area of concern with cases of female harassment, molestation, robbery, kidnapping and murder being reported frequently. Though the Government and the agencies concerned are doing their best, a person is essentially responsible for his or her own security,” says Sunil Duggal of Vision Group that provided security to actor Aamir Khan during the Olympic torch relay in Delhi.

Centrally located large retail venues are unfortunately most prone areas for criminal or terrorist threats, Mr. Duggal said. He also added that the BPO-call centre business, which is promoting a late night culture and increasing stress levels, also gives rise to a scenario highly conducive to crime.
